Vintage Ulster & Delaware Railroad Brass Lock – Catskill Mountains - RARE Vintage Railroad Lock

This is a vintage brass lock from the Ulster & Delaware Railroad.
It is marked “U&D RR" on the front of the hasp and is marked "Wilson Bohannan, Brooklyn, NY, June 25, '78, S" on the reverse side of the hasp, with the "S" standing for switch.

Additionally, it has "WB" stamped in large letters as well for Wilson Bohannan.

The Lock measures 4" x 2 1/2". It is in very good condition with a beautiful and untouched original patina, some rusting on chain

A rare item from the early days of the U&D.

The Ulster & Delaware Railroad was a 129 mile New York regional railroad and had it's mainline from Kingston, NY to Oneonta, NY, with a small branch line to Kaaterskill and Hunter, NY.

It was in existence from 1875 to 1932 when the line was taken over by the New York Central RR. The road was preceded by the Rondout & Oswego RR from 1869 to 1872 and then the New York Kingston & Syracuse RR from 1872 to 1875.

The U&D RR served the towns of Kingston Point, Kingston, Stony Hollow, West Hurley, Ashokan, Cold Brook, Mount Pleasant, Phoenicia, Shandakan, Big Indian, Pine Hill, Grand Hotel Station, Fleischmann’s, Arkville, Kelly’s Corners, Halcottville, Roxbury, Grand Gorge, South Gilboa, Stamford, Hobart, South Kortright, Bloomville, Kortright Station, East Meredith, Davenport Center, West Davenport, Oneonta, Chichester, Lanesville, Edgewood, Kaaterskill Junction, Hunter, Tannersville, Haines Falls, Laurel House Station, and Kaaterskill, NY.

Additionally, the line was well known for serving the famous hotels and resorts of the Catskill Mountain region. It had connections with the New York Ontario & Western, Wallkill Valley, New York West Shore & Buffalo, Delaware & Hudson, Delaware & Northern, Oneonta Cooperstown & Richfield Springs, and Stony Clove & Catskill Mountain Railroads.
