This original antique print is from Volume II of "Picturesque America", a two-volume set of books describing and illustrating the scenery of America that grew out of an earlier series in "Appleton's Journal", a magazine edited by Romantic poet and journalist William Cullen Bryant. The essays and images contained in these books provided great "armchair travel" back when so many Americans would never venture very far from home.
